Basketball Player Previews: Aaron Anderson

August 4, 2011

Overview: Anderson played a little over 20 minutes per game, averaging 7.6 ppg.

What he does well: Anderson is like a much smaller Matt Howard. His best skill is getting to the free throw line. His fouls drawn per 40 minutes of 5.8 led the team and is even more impressive when you consider that is almost his height (5’9″). He also converted at the line well, shooting 80%. His 17.9% assist rate was 2nd on the team.

What he doesn’t do well: Anderson isn’t a very good shooter other than at the line. He shot 35% from three and 36.8% from two resulting in a very poor 42.1% eFG. I am assuming that his lack of height precludes him from getting many good looks. Fortunately, he doesn’t shoot a ton (17.4% of the team’s shots when on the floor). He also turns it over way too much, at 19.8%

Season outlook: If he can improve his outside shooting a bit and can keep getting to the line he could be a nice guy to have off the bench to be a spotup shooter, but the Sioux shouldn’t count on him for major minutes.
